Recipes for Health and Healing- Sea Vegetable Dishes


Hiziki with Carrots and Leeks
Hiziki is a sea vegetable, which is the highest in calcium and especially iron. It strengthens the bones, revitalize skin and hair. It also builds strong intestines.

Ingredients...


1 3/4 ounces hiziki
1 onion or leek
1 carrot, slice
1 to 2 teasppons shoyu
grated ginger or lemon or teaspoon barley malt or mirin

Preparation...

Rinse and soak the hiziki for half hour, then drain and cut into small pieces. Slice onions and carrots and layer in a skillet with hiziki on top
. Cook for 30 minutes. Season with shoyu and simmer a few more minutes. Can be served over salad.
Optional: cooked with tempeh or other vegetables like fresh corn or others.

 

Arame with a Creamy Sauce
Arame is a sea vegetable high both in calcium and iron. It helps to make strong blood and is also beneficial for the circulatory system.

Ingredients...

1 cup dry arame, soaked
8 oz tofu
1 teaspoon kelp powder
2 tablespoon tahini
1 teaspoon soy sauce
toasted sesame oil

Preparation...

Lightly oil sauce pan with toasted sesame oil
. Heat, then add arame and enough water, that it doesn’t burn. Simmer for 20 minutes adding more water.
In a cup mix 1/2 cup hot water with the tahini, add kelp, few drops soy sauce and let it stand.
Crumble tofu into the simmering seaweed, mix and cook for another 5 minutes.
Add sauce, stir, cook another 2 minutes. Serve!
